9A- Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

Who: Throughout my interviews, I realized that there are groups of people and business's who seem to fit the opportunity, but actually fall outside of the market. Most people do not want to wait in line when they go out drinking or to eat. I knew this before my interviews. Now, after the interviews, I realized that some people will just avoid the area where the popular bars and restaurants are (Midtown). Instead, they will go to an area or bar that is less busy. They can eat and drink in peace and don't have to wait in line. The other group people who are outside of the market are the people who attend these bars most nights out of the week. The so- called "regulars" do not seem to have the same problem getting into the bars. They know the times where the lines will be smaller and never seem to have a problem.

What: When I asked my interviewees about the real problem that causes the lines to be so long, I mostly got the answers I expected. The exception was my last interview. She suggested that maybe the real problem is that students want to drink way too much and way to often. This overcrowds the nightlife.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders' need is not different than people who are inside the boundary. The need is to get rid of outrageous lines at popular bars. The underlying cause is that students drink to get away from the stress that college brings.

People who avoid the lines by
                       drinking or eating at a

                       the popular night life,

The need is to find a solution to all of the line
that occur where all of the popular nightlife is.

Why  Bouncers have to check IDs                              Everyone tries to go out at the same time.

  1. Hey Eric,

After reading your blog, I was very interested to hear about your opinions and takes from this subject matter from before your interviews to afterwards. You fully learn more than you expect with these interviews because of the people you are talking to and if they are in the market or outside of the market. I figured that some people would rather choose to go to a less packed area and not have to wait for food and drinks versus going to a highly concentrated area where they do wait. Also, your chart was a good representation of the people inside the market and outside when it came to the opportunity at hand. Overall, great post and details surrounding it.

  2. Hi Eric!

I find your business opportunity to be very interesting and something that I feel is necessary and also something that thousands of students have a stand point on. I definitely believe that by interviewing those outside of our specified market, we learn more about what we can change in order to make progress in our proposals. I can understand that there is a distinct divide between those who don't have an issue with waiting in line to get into a crowded bar and those who you rather go somewhere else where they can quickly get in to. Your chart was a great representation of this. Nice post!

  3. Hi Eric!

The opportunity that you choose is one that affects many students and others in the Gainesville area. I am the type of person who would rather go to a different area than wait in a long line and I have done that on multiple occasions. I think the app you are proposing would be very beneficial. Long wait times could also be associated with occupancy maximums of bars. Bouncers try to keep the occupancy under the maximum and wont let new customers in until come leave. It would be interesting to see if you could some how incorporate the occupancy maximums into the app. Great Post.
