21A- Reading Reflection

I read "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big.
1. The general theme of this book was to never give up. Scott Adams shares his story of repeated failures or incomplete ventures. He used these failures to motivate himself and eventually became the creator of the famous cartoon Dilbert.
2. I think this book connected greatly with the information in this class. Adams was an entrepreneur. He tried many different things and seemed to keep failing. Whether a venture failed due to money, copyright issues or anything else, he didn't let it stop him. He would use his failure and learn from it. Learned what he could of done better to make sure that the final product or service was successful.
3. If I had to design an assignment for this class based on this book I would have the students list out ten things that they have "failed" in their life so far. Then I would ask them to write why they failed and what they would do different. I think this would give students insight as why failure can help them learn more about themselves.
4. One thing I learned most was that many successful people that are household names today, haven't always been that way. Many billionaires today didn't get rich until their 50s. There is always time to create something new and failure sometimes can help us hit the jackpot.

  1. Hi Eric,

I also read the same book!! I loved it. I really enjoy how in your posts, you are short, sweet and to the point. As a reader, it makes it easier for me to understand your point. I really liked your idea of a "failed" list. I think it would really humble people and make them reflect on their decisions.

  2. Hi Eric, I also read How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big. I think the book related a lot to the class as many of the same ideas/topics were covered. I like your idea for the class exercise. I actually chose something similar to yours. I think this type of exercise would be very beneficial.
